Job Search - Understanding Your Priorities

In 2018, I applied blindly to every internship that came my way.

I got lucky, and landed an internship at an amazing Software Start-Up.

During my time there, I realized that I needed to prioritize a company’s culture and products when applying for my next role.

So, in 2019, I compiled a list of companies that had 1.) values that aligned with mine and 2.) a product that I cared about, LinkedIn being one of them.

During the interview process, when asked the question, “Why do you want to work here?” I could confidently say that it was because of their company culture and products.

If I hadn’t used this criteria, I would have been applying to dozens of companies that were not a good fit.

I would have spread myself thin trying to ‘match’ myself to a variety of companies, rather than having one goal in mind to keep me motivated.

➡️ Excluding companies from my job search was the best thing I could have done for myself.
